To get that icon to flip to your intended branding it takes customizing the favicon, yes, but also the ios/social app icon too. Otherwise the triangle default mark persists when you share links or save to desktop etc.

Mobile games today.
Acknowledging that software is a commodity, and human relationships and developer taste are the value now. (The other value is data, but set that aside for now, because we’re trumping that with privacy and personal autonomy for this conversation.) To download and play Chess, Risk, Roulette, BlackJack, Poker, and so many other simple games today they still demand internet connected for tracking and ads, their core mission is to sell things stuff, and they want your signup, often demanding it. Just not necessary any longer in the world of Nostr, lightning and easily built quality games by devs and creatives that are doing it for the love of it. I had the frustration when I just wanted to play roulette on a plane, and have a game of risk on my own against the computer. Had the idea for the solution when I typo’d ‘programming’ into ‘brogramming’ and wondered what that could be. In my work I’m building a co-op to change an industry, because solutions built around software can now be de-corporatized and ownership decentralized. So here’s the thought:
One Apple Store and Google Play store under a Co-op Dev Account (even better if a good candidate already exists). Then the apps get pushed out through there with stipulations around anonymity, in-app payments, connected web and tracking rules etc where the target is anonymity allowed, tracking disallowed, ads disallowed, connectivity requirement disallowed, etc. you get the idea. A place where software can be secure, open, decentralized, anonymous, local-first, and where achievable—high quality, all while front side purchase routes to dev through the co-operative and/or developer-tips route to dev directly via nostr by zaps.

Yes. The problem with the elegant solution to this is that most people can’t see 4, 8, 20, 100 moves ahead. It’s making tiny changes to an ecosystem that will have varied possible degrees generational ramifications. I don’t mean human generations, I mean generations across cycles within the ecosystem that you’re making alterations to. The elegance of bitcoin was more in how much insight was put into the structure that is non-programmatic than the brogramming structure itself. Consensus would never have created Bitcoin. I do wonder if consensus can preserve or rescue it. It’s similar to how full democracy without the republic aspects is ever doomed to fail. 🍿

Nothingburger? No. Not a nothingburger. Just the wrong solution to the problem still worth solving. Let's say the hammer was trying to drive a screw, and failed, do you just swing a bigger hammer because the screw is worth driving? Or, do you look for a solution more elegant. Remember, devs, Bitcoin is more elegance than code. It interlaces with humanity at a personal, familial, community, and macro level. You can't just swing a hammer at every problem that comes along and expect it to resolve cleanly. And problems will indeed come along, because it's being managed by humans. Flawed as we are, our solutions too will be. So it will take the best among us to resolve these issues elegantly, timelessly, and sustainably. Intelligent patience is what it requires. Your adversaries definitely use that daily for their work.

For those curious: @nprofile…8k94 doesn’t tell its miners how to template transactions into a block. If you’re just hashing on Ocean Pool they’ll template for you. But if you are running Datum and your Node then your winning hash is templated by your own config. So Ocean will have blocks on both sides of the chain because you’re free to choose your configs as a pooled miner. This is their thesis at work.

Alternate perspective: One doesn’t zap because one is trying to give someone bitcoin.
One doesn’t receive zaps because one needs bitcoin.
Zaps are value for value. Lets the value flow. The only people that zapped that post were the ones that got value from it and wanted to show that value received and to encourage more value. I think it’s not about just the bitcoin receiving or the giving. It’s about that PLUS the value that was exchanged on the other half of the transaction. I can like something or emoji something and not zap on memes and shitposts. But when I receive value (knowledge, perspective, healthy attention) I can zap and I don’t look at it as a transfer of sats. The sats are the unimportant part of the transaction. That’s the gratitude part. Zaps are so much more fun than X. I would hope everybody gets to participate in the zap feature when inspired to.

Yes intuitive, and better guardrails for non-tech-savvy users that are venturing into the space. It’s often hard for devs to make a simple, effective UX. The ones that do it right are the ones that guardrail the onboarding flow with a good UX for introductory or advanced users that illustrates what’s happening and prevents missteps. Coldcard missed on that. Odell was only seeming to flail because the coldcard wasn’t good at onboarding all user types. So he was saying to use a certain feature but was clarifying that it was “advanced” when it wasn’t really. It’s dice. Pretty simple. It was just a shit UX built around a simple and important step.

Recommended. UX, hardware quality and responsible dev was my primary focus when I evaluated a variety of wallets to arrive at the set I recommend choosing from. Good UX and avoiding gotchas for non-tech users is so important that it’s why many like the cold card were booted from my roster.

Agreed. Those I listed I bought and used, and have personal comfort with their UX and apparent quality. I included candidates based on core requirements around Bitcoin-only ability. I’m not a code reviewer though. My approach would rule options in and out based on whether I’d put my mom or siblings on them for long term.
I wish Passport still made their Core model. 🤷‍♂️

Seriously evaluate Bitkey (with screen) if you want the benefit of multisig but don’t mind a single supplier providing all varied layers and trade that for simplicity. Otherwise mixing manufacturers offers distributed failure surfaces and likely time to respond in case of any leg failing.

The insurers establish conditions of insurance and that nearly fully mitigate the actual risk. You could almost ask yourself (or Rob) what an insurer would require, then do that, then you likely wouldn’t even need it any longer.

What I heard said wasn’t so much about signing but rather that certain hardware IDs would offer ownership proof. They said also to keep any original transaction or wallet data. Longshot but why burn it if it could help.

Great instruction videos come from Ben on BTC Sessions. But before you decide your route remember these options:
- Multisig is best with wallets from 3 different manufacturers. Do Bitcoin only wallets or install the Bitcoin only firmware for the ones you get. Do Trezor, BitBox02, Blockstream Jade, and Passport Core by Foundation Devices.
- Single Sig + Passphrase is more robust than singlesig, but less complicated and less expensive than multisig. But you MUST MUST MUST do all the homework to fully understand the Passphrase, what it is, that you need it to access your funds at all, and how it works and how it can trip you up.

If multisig is your pick, 3 hardware wallets. One from Trezor, Blockstream, & Bitbox as the three keys. All Bitcoin-only firmware/versions.
If not multisig: a strong 25th word adds security if fully understood. Do the homework.

Indeed. The NIP-05 of each held brand profile is on the heldbrand.com domain until the official brand claims it or spins up their own npub that heldbrand would then point to. Meanwhile, making sure people can find and know that the heldbrand profiles are safe is the goal. Do you know what pack registry is currently used most often?

@nprofile…jg4y is up and running with a few test brands. About to roll out the other 9k initial brands. Should the brands be bundled to a particular follow pack registry for better visibility above scammers and impersonators? If so, I’m not sure which follow pack sources have the best exposure and reputation. Tips on where are welcomed.

Nope. Just super simple tip routing that includes BTC/⚡️ and nostr by default. Nostr gateway that crossed my mind one day at Bitcoin park while @nprofile…ct7k was talking about adoption. Mixed that inspiration with how I’d thought to solve how I could never tip in lightning at live gigs. It’s always several QRs taped to a mic stand. It could easily be one QR and all options while one option should auto-include Zapping.
